How To Open An eToro Account

This comprehensive guide contains a detailed step-by-step process for opening an eToro account.

Opening an account with eToro is relatively straightforward, but before applying, you would need;

  • To be 18 years old or older.
  • To live in a country where eToro offers its services
  • A device connected to the internet (e.g., computer, smartphone, or tablet).
  • A valid phone number
  • A valid email address

To open an account on eToro, here are a few simple steps you need to follow;

1. Visit eToro’s homepage.

From eToro’s website homepage, find and click the Join Now button. eToro would take you to another page with an account registration form.

2. Fill out the registration form.

Fill out the registration form with all personal data required. Alternatively, you can sign up using your Facebook or Gmail account.

After that, go through the account terms and privacy policy. Then, signify your agreement with eToro by checking the boxes next to them.

After reviewing and accepting eToro’s terms and privacy policy, submit your application form by clicking the “sign-up” button.

3. Verify your email address

After creating your account, you’ll need to verify your email address to ensure you used the correct email address and to keep your account secure. To do that;

  1. Log into your eToro account.
  2. Click on settings.
  3. Under Credentials, click the ‘Verify’ button next to your email address.
  4. You will receive a verification email from [email protected].
  5. Click the ‘Verify now’ button in the email.
  6. That would take you to the eToro platform, where you will see a confirmation message that your email address is verified.

4. Add your personal information and investment experience.

After creating an account, eToro would require you to add your personal information during the registration process. You must also add your investment experience to customize your account to your investment/ trading skill level. To do that;

  1. Click on the ‘Complete Profile button (At the top left corner).

  2. A message would pop up; read it and click ‘Continue.’

  3. Fill out your personal information; this has to match the proof of identity you provided. Then click on the arrow to continue.

  5. Enter your place of birth and country of citizenship.

6. Verify your phone number

With eToro, phone number verification is a mandatory account verification process. To complete the phone number verification process;

  1. Login to your eToro account.
  2. From the dashboard, click on ‘Verify.’
  3. Enter your mobile phone number and click ‘Send SMS.’
  4. Enter the SMS code you received on your mobile phone number to verify it’s your number.
  5. Click ‘Verify’ and check the green banner at the bottom to verify your phone number.

  1. Login to your eToro account.
  2. Click on settings from the left-hand menu.
  3. From the settings page, click on ‘Account.’
  4. Under Credentials, click the ‘Add’ button next to your phone number.
  5. Enter your phone number and click ‘Continue.’
  6. Enter the SMS code you received on your mobile phone number to verify it’s your number.
  7. Click ‘Verify’ and check the green banner at the bottom to verify your phone number.

7. Verify your identity

As part of the mandatory KYC (Know Your Customer) process, eToro would require you to verify your identity. To verify your identity, you must submit valid proof of identity.

Note: The necessary proof of identity must contain;

  1. Your full name
  2. Your Date of birth
  3. Your Photograph
  4. A valid expiry date

Examples of valid documents you can provide as proof of identity include; a copy of your valid passport or a government-issued identification card (both sides).

8. Verify your address

Along with proof of your identity, eToro would also require proof of your residential address for you to complete the KYC (Know Your Customer) process.
Note: Your proof of address document must contain;

  • Your name
  • Your current residential address
  • The issue date (less than six months old)
  • The issuing authority and a reference to the issuing authority (logo, website, etc.)

9. Make a deposit

To start live trading or to invest with eToro, you must deposit some money into the account you created. To do that, follow these instructions:
